Synchrony and Oscillations

EEG-fMRI Group

The goal of the EEG-fMRI group is to observe electrical and hemodynamic activities in multiple brain areas, its dynamics and interactions and its relation to mental operations. Particularly, we explore the role of neuronal synchrony and oscillations for cerebral information processing.

Focuses

  • MRI correlates of spontaneous EEG-rhythms during rest
  • Simultaneous effects of spontaneous EEG rhythms and functional task on fMRI blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) signal
  • Simultaneous acquisition of high frequency oscillations indexing action-potential timing, somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) and fMRI
  • Relation of ongoing activity and evoked activity in EEG and fMRI Vigilance classification for continuous vigilance monitoring during fMRI

Clinical Application

  • Simultaneous EEG-fMRI in patients with hepatic encephalopathia

Methods

  • Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Surface Electromyography (EMG)
  • Functional Magnetic Resonsce Imaging (fMRI)
  • Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)
  • Simultaneous EEG-fMRI
